You have to keep in mind that Windows and UNIX address very different market segments. For most desktop functions, Windows (and NT) has become quite adequate due to improvements over the last 3 years. I was using the Next operating system for about 5 years in parallel with Windows, and during that time improvements in the Windows interface, stability, ease of use caught up with (more or less) Next OS (the 1994 version). You still have to reboot Windows once in a while (OK more frequently than that) but it is not bad for desktop productivity applications (Word, Excel, Access) which is what most people do. For the deficiencies that we are all aware of , NT has not been able to make inroads into the Corps for heavy duty computing and mission-critical operations. On the other hand PCs are cheap and effective for the role that they were designed to have. You can't compare things in a vacuum.

Mercedes and Saturn are both cars, but serve different segments of the market (it is as simple as that to me). Saturn is probably more reliable than Windows, but you get the point.
