Looks like you're keeping this thread alive all by yourself Pat. I hate to burst your bubble, but please lets have a little reality check:

1. SDLI has great 980 technology and is obviously selling all they can. However, UNPH is selling all they can manufacture as well and in fact are selling many more units due to their capacity advantage. SDLI is probably even with them in revs due to their packaging ability. However, that will go away as UNPH ramps their own packaging program.

2. There is much more to a 980 than simply its power. For starters, the 1480 laser is used in combination with the 980. Its the combination of the two thats important, not the sole power of the 980. Second, the majority of systems going out the door right now don't need the higher mw 980s at this point. They eventually will, and by that time, UNPH will be there.

3. THIS IS A ONE PRODUCT COMPANY. How long can they last with only one major winner? IOC? Give me a break. They had sales of $6M last year in the transmitter space vs. UNPH close to $100M. Even the CEO admits he will have a hard time competing.

4. SDL may be saved by ETEK or Corning at some point. That is the only way they will be able to sufficiently broaden their product line. The only reason the stock is doing so well is because there are so few pure plays (and I use that word loosely with SDLI since their printing biz is a decent part of operations) in the space. SDLI has had a remarkable run and may continue from a stock standpoint, but as an ongoing business, they are far far behind the new JDS/UNPH.
