Javasoft maybe losing money TODAY. If you haven't noticed, it the rage in almost every enterprise development environment. It is (still, after 4 years) new and will take time to start making a profit. Sun has no alternative but to continue on Java's momentum in the industry (including embedded, hand held devices, nc's, set top boxes, etc.)
Java is also making great headlines in improving performance with hotspot and many other vendors releasing jits (tower etc.) - the developer comminity loves the language; that is itself sufficient to ensure it will continue to be very popular. The number of jobs for java programmers in silicon valley is probably the highest of any category already. That should tell you something.
If your reasoning is that javasoft is currently losing money and Sun should discontinue java, you are totally clueless.

reg. NT's crashing all the time, I think it is blown out of proportion too. NTs (windows) are already the dominant desktop, but with pc prices falling and pc's on the way to becoming nothing more than internet appliances, the NC vision may be coming true; cheap pc's of the future will be essentially nc's. Sun does have serious issues to deal with at both the desktop and server but has been holding up very well so far, and will probably continue to do well as the overall demand for high end servers explodes due to internet traffic.
