Moonray: You and Scrapps must be getting lonely in here - it's gotten awfully quite on this thread over the last few days!

What's your take on the 3-Com buy out rumours (which also seem to have quietened down)? Seems to me Lucent will be too busy digesting the Ascend business to bother with 3-Com in the immediate future, and I've never seen 3-Com as a good strategic fit with Lucent, unless they spun some of the businesses. Nortel has Bay, which seems to leave only the overseas suitors like Alcatel, Siemens & Ericsson.

Maybe Benhamou & Co. are going to go it alone? If so, what's the effective 3-Com strategy to compete with Lucent, Cisco et al?

I'd appreciate your thoughts, & Scrapps too since he started this thread seems like eons ago.

BTW, I also have a cable modem setup. Cablevision started the service last Fall (after they got the area upgraded to 2-way fiber) using an Intel PCI NIC and a Terapro cable modem. They said they'd tested the 3-Com NIC/modem and it didn't work as well with their system, I don't know the details. As a guinea pig, I got the NIC/modem/installation free, the service is $39.95/month, an they'd have to tear my arm off to disconnect it! Your profile downloads in nothing flat!

Regards, David T.
