ITurf Rises on Marketing Alliance With America Online
New York, May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Shares of iTurf Inc., an Internet retailer targeting 10- to 24-year-olds, rose 14 percent after the company said it signed a marketing agreement with America Online Inc., the largest online service.
ITurf rose 4 7/16 to 36 1/16 in trading of 1.8 million, nearly twice the three-month daily average. The company is 75 percent-owned by teen-clothing retailer Delia's Inc.
The company will pay AOL $8 million over two years to give customers links to New York-based iTurf's World Wide Web sites when they search on teen products, sports and health, kids' products, home furnishings and content for teen-age girls. ''This agreement will offer iTurf a great opportunity to serve one of the largest teenage audiences in cyberspace,'' Jonathan Sacks, senior vice president and general manager of Dulles, Virginia-based AOL, said in a statement.
The company's Internet sites include droog.com, for apparel and accessories; TSISoccer.com, a store for soccer apparel and equipment; and dELiAs.com, an apparel store.
In addition, the company will make its gURL.com site more accessible to teen-age girls by creating a gURL area on America Online's service.
The iTurf brand names will be present on several AOL brands, including AOL, AOL.COM, ICQ and Netscape Netcenter, the company said. |
