Unlike you I've worked in both environments, and the integrated development environments that are available for Java development/C++ development on Wintel are at least one or two generations ahead of the few half-functional UNIX tools. For most of my consulting gigs Visual Cafe and/or Jbuilder are the preferred tools; running under Windows NT/Win98.
