Lee--I think you pretty much got the quote exact.
Certainly you got the meaning of it dead on.
I think it was Rene Descartes [Though it may have been one of the other ones with a weird name] who came up with one of the deepest of all of those philosophical sayings. He decided to go back to nature and was eating a diet of only cabbages and beans and was not bathing in order to reach his primal man. After several months of this he came up with the classic: 'I stink therefore I am.'
Sadly he lost his primal essence shortly after this and degenerated back to a more modern form. He bathed, gorged himself at a three star restaurant, got swacked on cheap wine, and then spent two days at Madame Lulu's joy house.
It is a major tragedy of philosophy that he broke down went he did. He seems to have been on the verge of a major philosophical breakthrough. A number of the sporting ladies at Madame Lulu's said he came up with some very profound and deep things but their exact nature has been lost to history.
