AAPL licensing SGI's Open GL probably started the "buy out" speculation

> " Droogies, Looks like PPC is in solid supply, so why buy sgi?"<<

Methimks Webness you have parsed: "why buy the cow when the milk is free ?"

AAPL's January "dairy deal" to use SGI's GL:
----
"(SGI's CEO) Rick Belluzzo feels the events of this week serve to
emphasize the common goals of both companies. "We
believe in the importance and significance of Apple
Computer, and we are fundamentally committed to
successfully moving OpenGL into the Mac
environment.

The addition of Apple's extensive
innovation, technology, and experience will be a great
advantage to everyone in the OpenGL world.

Together with Apple and the developer community, I
believe we will be able to introduce some truly great
new products and technologies. This is a wonderful
announcement that gives us all cause to be very excited
about the future.

More to come . Maybe a strategic alliance built around AAPL's OS X (UNIX) and a version of AAPL's PowerPC architecture ?

WWDC had to impress SGI .
