Toronto, Canada, (May 6, 1999) - NewKidCo International Inc. (TSE:NKC * OTC
BB:NKCIF; ) today reported a profitable first quarter from its continuing
line of business, children's video-game software based on popular licensed
characters.
For the three months ended March 31, 1999, the Company recorded sales of
CND $10.2 million, which reflect the shipment of five new video game
titles: Elmo's Number Journey, Elmo's Letter Adventure and Hello Kitty's
Cube Frenzy, for the PlayStation game console, and Elmo's ABCs and Elmo's
123s for Game Boy Color. Also during the quarter, the Company changed its
name from SoftQuad International Inc. to reflect its new business focus.
In accordance with Canadian GAAP, the net earnings from continuing
operations for the quarter ended March 31, 1999, amounted to CND $1.9
million or 14 cents per share.

children's segment, is beginning to deliver positive results such as a top
10 best-selling ranking on eToys.com for Elmo's Letter Adventure. In
