I never dream of earthquakes.

The old aluminum windows over my bed were great earthquake indicators. Even little quakes would set them rattling. Big ones, well, who the hell needs rattles..?

The problem was that other things, like wind, could set these windows rattling loud enough to wake me up, and I'd wake up scared and expecting The Big One to hit. Sometimes, like with the Whittier or the Landers quakes, I was sure it was the Big One, with bookshelves crashing down and all sorts of unnecessary noise and chaos. Who says we don't know how to have fun?
