Derek, I just call pat a "right- wing populist", and leave it at that:-)...Theory of Justice was interesting,and the idea of constructing rules "behind a screen", i.e., not knowing one's lot in life, was not altogether bad. But since at best it was an argument for the "safety net", which even most conservatives support, the idea that it was a robust argument for a full- blown welfare state was fatuous...Besides, one cannot construct social rules without a consideration of the way that human beings and society really work. Distributive justice is limited by things like the moral hazard of welfare dependency, perverse incentives, and the vitiation of an efficient labor market... |
