From Bull Market Report:

(somewhat dated news, but worth seeing their take on it)

$$$$$ ONLINE TRADING JUMPS 40 PERCENT HIGHER IN APRIL

Online brokerages processed a record 630,000 trades a day in April, 40 percent
higher than the 450,000 trades a day in the first quarter. Online brokers
processed nearly 50 percent more trades than in the last quarter of 1998.

COMMENT: In an unrelated event, Arthur Levin of the SEC went public with some
startling statements about how fast daytrading has grown and how dangerous it
is. But the growth of online trading remains very strong, growing at well over
100% per year rates. We are happy with our positions in E-Trade and Charles
Schwab (SCH) and are watching Merrill Lynch closely. We are not worried about
Merrill's long term viability, but they are going to have to make some changes
fast. We are considering adding Ameritrade (AMTD) too.
