April PPI Core Rate = +0.1%

The Producer Price Index for Finished Goods advanced 0.5 percent in
April, seasonally adjusted, the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the U.S.
Department of Labor reported today.

The index for finished goods other
than foods and energy increased 0.1 percent, after showing no change a
month earlier.


Prices received by producers of intermediate goods advanced
0.6 percent, after increasing 0.3 percent in the previous month. The crude
goods index gained 1.3 percent, following a 1.0-percent rise in March.


Retail Sales for April = +0.1%

The Census Bureau of the Department of Commerce announced today that advance estimates of U.S. retail sales for April
adjusted for seasonal, holiday, and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $239.3 billion, an increase of 0.1
percent (±0.7%) from the previous month and up 7.5 percent (±0.9%) from April 1998.


Weekly Jobless Claims = unchanged, 308K
