Teflon,

Any comments regarding MSFT's potential investment in Deutsche Telekom and the potential outcome and its impact on a consolidation move with GMST.

Both Microsoft and Gemstar have agreements with Deutsche Telekom. MS for WebTV and Gemstar for its native guide. Its a win-win for Gemstar IMO because the WebTV product pays Gemstar about $9 per unit, annual fees and the advertising revs are shared. The recent MS moves into U.K. cable also bode well for Gemstar.

By the way, I do not agree that GMST's interface will have the market impact that this Board seems to believe in. People are creatures of habit, and once viewing/consumer patterns become established their interface loses substantial value.

Indeed, people are creatures of habit as seen with the remote control. Thomson's team of industrial psychologists found that a person 4 feet from a TV will walk 10 feet to get the remote. True functionality breeds dependency and most actions are reduced to the subconscious level. The guide will become as habitual as the remote IMO in the 100+ channel world. This has been well researched in the satellite industry as well as in Europe.

Regards
Stew
