VANCOUVER TO DRAW MORE THAN 6,000 TO INTERNATIONAL WIRELESS TELECOMMUNICATIONS EVENT - Canadian WIRELESS 1999 to focus on industry expansion and new technologies

OTTAWA, ON, May 13 /CNW/ - Industry leaders from across North America
will converge in Vancouver, June 1 to 3, to discuss the latest trends, issues
and developments in wireless telecommunications. Canadian WIRELESS 1999, the
30th annual convention and trade show of the Canadian Wireless
Telecommunications Association (CWTA), hosts more than 120 international
exhibitors displaying leading edge wireless technology products and services.
''The wireless revolution is booming in Canada,'' says Roger Poirier,
President & CEO of CWTA. ''This year, we are seeing some cutting-edge
technological developments in wireless. Thousands of businesses that rely on
it for communications will be attending the conference and trade show to learn
how wireless can improve their operations.''
This year's special guest speakers include Martin Cooper, inventor of the
cellular phone; Jay Kitchen, President & CEO of the US-based Personal
Communications Industry Association (PCIA); and Dr. Paul E. Jacobs, President
of QUALCOMM Consumer Products. In addition, Charles Hoffman, President & CEO
of Rogers Cantel, George Cope, President & CEO of Clearnet Communications,
André Tremblay, President & CEO of Microcell Telecom, and Harry Truderung,
President & CEO of BCT.Telus Mobility, will be joining Poirier for a
state-of-the-industry forum.
Canadian WIRELESS is Canada's leading telecommunications event. Expert
panel sessions are scheduled for topics including broadband wireless, wireless
internet, mobile satellites, the future of paging, regulatory issues, mobile
data and more.
