Bell Mobility Launches Revolv Trials With Wireless Knowledge; First Carrier Partner to Begin Formal Testing of the Revolv Service
Business Wire - May 13, 1999 13:15

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 13, 1999--Wireless Knowledge LLC, a joint venture company between Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ: MSFT) and QUALCOMM Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced that Bell Mobility, Canada's leading wireless telecommunications carrier, is the first carrier to begin comprehensive testing and trials of Wireless Knowledge's premier service offering, the Revolv(SM) service.

The Revolv service will allow mobile professionals to securely tap into their Microsoft(R) Exchange environment and access key corporate information, such as e-mail, contacts, calendar and Internet content, using a variety of wireless or mobile devices from anywhere they travel.

"We are very excited about the possibilities that the Revolv service has to offer Bell Mobility customers," said Charlotte Burke, vice president of services development for Bell Mobility. "We hope to deliver the Revolv service commercially in summer 1999, so that our customers are the first to experience true wireless connectivity to corporate information and Internet content."

In conjunction with the launch of the Revolv service trials, Bell Mobility today announced its digital data wireless service, Digital Data to Go. The service offers Bell Mobility customers the freedom of wireless communications -- anytime, anywhere. The Revolv service will be offered as an enhanced service to Digital Data to Go and available to data customers in summer 1999.

"Bell Mobility's digital data wireless service is proof of its extreme dedication to the advancement of wireless data," said Dave Whalen, vice president of sales and marketing for Wireless Knowledge. "Its commitment to wireless data is an important endorsement for Wireless Knowledge and its services."

Bell Mobility is expected to complete internal testing by June 1999 and expand service to several corporate customers. Mediaserve Communications, Inc., a Web presence provider specializing in high-performance, reliable Web site hosting services, will be one of the first companies to use and benefit from the Revolv offering.

"Mediaserve is looking forward to exploring the power of the Revolv service," said Lalit Canaran, managing architect of Mediaserve. "The Revolv service will enable our employees to stay in touch with important information even when out of the office, allowing them to be fully productive."

The Revolv service is available now on an OEM basis to wireless carriers. Commercial end-user availability from the first carrier partners is expected in summer 1999. Wireless Knowledge has working relationships with a portfolio of leading wireless carriers and is currently pursuing other strategic alliances with computing, software and telecommunications companies.
