Did you notice what the Oracle/Netscape/Sun/IBM/Apple alliance
actually published Monday? A draft for comments. Nothing concrete.
What was proposed was the use of already implemented current
standards such as TCP/IP and HTML. Who to date has already
made the most devices that conform to these NC specs? Intel.
Every PC it makes meets those specs. What NC provides the best
balance of low cost and capability to run a large library of apps? A
used 486 PC with a modem for $500.

I think the "NC" as envisioned by Apple (a small personal device
the size of a business card holder) has a future. But the "NC" as
envisoned by Oracle where it replaces desktop PC's is as lame
as Oracle's ideas about set-top TV boxes two years ago. Where did
that go? You'll remember that Ellison spun -off a subsidiary to make
that crap too.
