Re: Additional items in advisory . . .

When it got to the user's kit, I stopped reading. But you are right, that stuff counts, too.

You didn't mention another item in there -- using the IDT software to connect up to Oracle 8i databases. Maybe IDX has thrown in the towel on its F3/Oracle networking option and will now having Oracle sell the IDT solution. F3 may only be used now for off-PC applications, like access and control, particularly the FAA pilot. (The F3 technology is not a failure if this rollout occurs, as expected.)

The USB connection is for the future, because USB is uncommon right now, I believe. But IDT seems to have methodically remedied every possible competitive disadvantage in their prior software, while readying a new scanner for half the present price.

Speaking of price, I think the Digital Persona U are U is about $150. You may have been thinking of the Sony Puppy (I/O Software), with its onboard CPU, last year at $650, but now about $350.

As to Entrust, I don't think it implies much about Verisign. IDX would have reason to work with both, if possible -- and Verisign should be preferred if they have to choose. It is a little surprising to see an Entrust connection before a Verisign connection. In fact, I think Entrust also works with the American Biometric Company product (both are Canadian companies, by the way) in alliance with Schlumberger. So Entrust is broadening its options.

Any way you look at it, there is a ton of new important developments in this afternoon's advisory. These could have been a few separate PRs and no one would have thought twice about it.
