Richard,

You will find our 10-K on our Web site (www.genelogic.com). There is a section on intellectual property in Item 1, but I don't think you will find the answer to your specific question there.

We purchase our spotting machine from Packard Instrument Company. We believe that they are not infringing anyone else's patents.

That answer is about as specific as I can be without a more specific question. Do you have any particular patents in mind? If so, please give me the patent numbers and I'll ask our IP lawyer to give me his analysis.

I'm surprised this is the first issue that comes to mind when you begin analysis if our company. Have you read our 1998 Annual Report or the business description in the 10K? I think those documents will help to put things in perspective for you. The Flow-thru Chip(TM) is still in development and is not, in my opinion, one of the top three value drivers of the company at this time. I would focus on (1) READS(TM) and the target discovery business (which accounts for the vast majority of our current revenue stream), (2) the first of the GeneExpress(TM) databases (our next major planned product launch), and (3) our OPM software (which is essential for the management of the gene expression data we generate with READS and GeneExpress).
