some of the back up in yields has been due to a rise in inflation expectations but the subsequent data has been tame so I would have expected that to wash out. But it is possible.

I haven't seen a reduction in overseas purchases. What has changed is the eagerness of buyers. With the strength of US equities and the recovery of some Asian and emerging equity markets it is more of a feeling that people are raising their return criteria and bond yields need to back up to keep people interested.
