DECT is an old system from the 80's that emerged in Europe. The first product was the NET3 Olivetti and was a wireless LAN type.In Germany DECT took over 60 percent of the analouge CEPT standard away. The second market success was in the office, factory ,warehouse all connected to the on-premises switchboard or the PABX.An incoming call for a given handset is automatically routed to the correct handset.DECT found real success in these "key areas" such as hospitals, factories ect.In the mid 90's DECT technology was maturing and cost falling.DECT technology in 1997 saw 2 million wireless phones and today it is moving to larger markets and applications. My question is will CDMA minicells like QUALCOMM's new Q cell make obslete the DECT system that is now starting to be installed in US hotels ect. Will the nitch of in-building mobile telecom be a new area for the old holy wars ?The market looks like it could be subsantial enough to light some fires.
