BOSTON - Media mogul Ted Turner urged NATO on Thursday to end its bombing campaign against Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic, saying it could draw China and Russia into a global war.
''I think what we should do is try and cut the best deal we can (in Yugoslavia,)'' Turner, vice chairman of Time Warner Inc. (TWX.N), told Boston College's Chief Executives Club during a speech on philanthropy.
''We ought to say 'hey, look, we gave this a try, it's not working' and (stop) before any more damage is done in the world. If you look a few steps away, if we keep going we could end up in World War Three against the Russians and the Chinese.''
Time Warner is the parent company of CNN.
Turner gave vague answers to questions about recent consolidations and mergers in the cable industry.
''It's going to be good for us, that's what everybody says,'' Turner said, adding ''But I don't know, ask an economist.'' |
