Don: Depends on what you call "very long term". I have the shares in my retirement account and given I'm quite a few years from retirement I can wait the 4 years until World Heart is selling commercial units. Hell, it takes 4 years to build a hockey rink (which is something CEO Rod Bryden did!) so it doesn't seem too long to me.

However, like many of these biotech/medical/technology plays, I expect the share price will rise nicely in the next two years as they pass through various milestones. Here's a little blurb I found on their competitor Thermo Cardiosystems...

-- Lehman Bros initiated coverage of Thermo Cardiosystems
Inc with a buy recommendation, according to a Lehman source and
later confirmed by a research note issued by the firm.
-- 12-month price target is $45 per share.
-- Shares climbed 1-3/8 to 27-7/8 in early American Stock
Exchange trade.

As far as I'm concerned, it's only a matter of time until the market starts to pay attention to a technically superior product.
