blessed,

The dust is settling down and the street is calm. I think the reform minded prime minister Zhu has done a good job to let people's emotion to get out and then controlled it before it get out of hands. It's not a easy job for him. He had already been accused of giving up too much ground in his recent trip to US. The bombing incident only complicated his job.
If Chinese bombed US embassy, I am certain that US government won't be satisfied without an investigation with US participation. The fact that the Chinese government is accepting US explanation and people are calming down while US has denied a UN investigation is remarkable. I don't think people want to believe that US government intentionally ordered the bombing. But a through investigation
and a better explanation are needed. The "old map" story is not good enough to fully convince the people outside of US. This is not like in World War II where you can assign target with a two dimensional map and drop a bomb on the roof. In order for three missiles to attack a build from different angles and entering different floors, the planner has to have the 3-D image of the CURRENT building. Whether it is through ground intelligence or other means, the 3-D image showing such details as where each window is (the planner has to pick an entry point for each missile) has to be acquired. During the process, how the Chinese flag and the big sign in the front get missed are questions that need to be investigated and further explained.

Anyway, I almost canceled my trip but now I am glad I am here. People from many US firms has appeared on TV last night saying that business is going on just like normal. By the way, all NATO countries lowered their flags yesterday at their embassies to honor those Chinese who died in the bombing. I think that helps too.
