Good question, Mark!
God orders us to examine our religion: "Now these (Beroeans) were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, examining the scriptures daily whether these things were so." Acts 17:11
1 Thess 5:21 "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but prove the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the world."
Today many do not believe the Scriptures, even tho the Bible is the most important book in history, and remains so today. So we have to move a step back and ask the hard question: What's the evidence that the Bible is true and inspired of God in a unique way? Few religious can show evidence that will convince an open minded skeptic. Evidence is only sufficient when the other guy says: "Yes, I believe, it has to be the truth."
The usual answer: "Just have faith." meaning: "Shut up!" I'm here to say there's an avalanche of evidence sufficient to the test.
