Thanks for posting, and do please come back. I appreciate your summary of the Windsor report, and look forward to future posts from you. Electronic chat rooms can be nasty, people don't have to see you to insult you, etc, and so you have to have pretty thick skin. I myself am going to be buying several uzi's and I've changed my "island" (that really was someone elses' comment- LJD I think said she would buy one?) to a castle, to fend off the disgruntled shareholders who'll come after me when AXC only reaches 499 7/8 on 9/27/99 instead of my hoped for $500. ;-)

Have recently tried to get a little handle on the size of the head market to gauge the possible impact of the elusive FC/torodial heads.
Taken from Gus' 1912 post on the size of the disk drive peripherals market we see that
96 750M heads of various types
97 near 1B " "
2004 2B " " Would expect HDD market to shrink tho due to new technology taking market share away after 2000 I think.
Now we know that heads are the most expensive component of a disk drive, probably because they're 2 to a platter, but I'm not all sure yet just how expensive they are. Around $9 is the nearest I could quickly and roughly figure REad-Rite made in 96 for each head.
What this means is if the FC/Torodial head can actually make it to market, the licensing fees have the potential to much more substantial than from KM because they're twice as many of them, and the price of each is pretty high. Now we know MR heads are much more expensive than TFI, but the market is going pell mell to producing them anyway, to IBM's surprise. If Velocidata and AXC really can get something out of the lab and into customers hands, teh potential is enormous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
