MIke, the DMS 500 is the latest in the line of digital circuit switches offered by Nortel Networks. It was not brought in with the Bay Networks acquisition. Other switches in the family are the DMS 10 and the DMS 100.

The announcement is particularly important because AT&T has traditionally bought all Lucent 5ESS switches for their networks and I believe the decision has a tie in to the huge commitment in Arris Cornerstone Voice previously made. Of course, Nortel is half the Arris JV. Cornerstone was extensively tested against the Nortel DMS switch family and has high compatibility and special features available when used together. The interfaces to 5ESS, however, are just based on Bellcore standards (although they would have to pass an exhaustive set of tests against the Lucent switch also to prove compatibility to be used in any network using a Lucent switch).
