TCI Supplier
Hi Pat -
I'm reading a Jupiter Communications research study on Thomson Consumer Electronics, which uses the "RCA" brand name in the United States. It is dated September, 1998.
Under the "Products" section, it says:
"TCE has been selected by TCI.Net, the broadband data division of Tele-Communications Inc. (TCI), to provide two-way high-speed digital cable modems based on the latest CableLabs Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification (DOCSIS) standard. The agreement includes a retail distribution arrangement that calls for TCE to leverage the retail strength of its RCA brand to make the digital cable modems available to consumers in select retail markets nationwide. Thomson's RCA Digital Cable Modem (DCM-105) is DOCSIS-compliant."
Of course, it doesn't say that it's an exclusive supplier...
Under "Partners", it mentions:
"Parent company Thomson Multimedia of France recently signed up Microsoft, Alcatel, NEC, and DirecTV as strategic partners, allowing each to buy up to 7.5 percent of the state-owned company."
Let's see...MSFT owns 7.5% of TCE, and 5% of T, and I guess we could spend a lifetime figuring out the intracacies of all these new relationships.
I'm trying to find out more about this TCE - TCI.Net combination...
Have a great day,
