The goal is to get rid of the stock, and they can do this in two ways: going short or selling long. Going short the entire holding first is best because there is less selling pressure, and if the price rises, a profit is possible even. When the short position is built up, it is covered and then hands are thoroughly washed to eliminate the fecal odor.
