More Compaq bashing by the limey nerds at The Register. (Although I would be disappointed if after the Mirror was trumpeting for months that it's new free ISP had involvement from MSFT and CPQ and no mention of IBM, that it should come come to this. Maybe The Register has it wrong - again! Anyway, here is what they said:

Launch of Mirror's ic24 sees IBM steal a jump on Compaq

The Mirror Group, Cable & Wireless Communications, Compaq and Microsoft stood shoulder-to-shoulder in a show of unity today to explain why the new ic24 subscription-free ISP service and portal was set to break new ground.

Such a show of strength by some of the industries biggest heavyweights is indeed a sight to behold.

The Mirror Group -- led by its flagship tabloid and with eight million readers across its other publishing interests -- brings content, a delivery mechanism and punters to the table.

CWC and the Great Stan of Software bring telecommunications know-how and software, respectively.

And Compaq? Oh, it brings hardware to the great partnership -- but not its own.

At the plush briefing today the all-singing, all-dancing multimedia presentation was delivered using …wait for it, wait for it…an IBM StinkPad.

Is that the best product endorsement for Big Blur or what?

Oh, how we laughed. Still makes me chuckle now just thinking about it... ®
