HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 14, 1999--Furthering its initiative
to offer customers the widest selection of computing choices at
affordable prices, Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today
announced the availability of Compaq Prosignia desktops pre-installed
with Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business and Microsoft Office 2000
Professional. Available in the U.S. starting May 15, customers can
purchase configured award-winning Prosignia desktops featuring the
latest Microsoft Office 2000 software preinstalled. Compaq will offer
Prosignia notebooks with preinstalled Office 2000 Small Business and
Office 2000 Professional starting in June.
As a part of Compaq's frontline partnership with Microsoft,
Compaq is a key participant in Microsoft's launch event promoting
Office 2000 scheduled for June 7 in San Francisco. Microsoft has also
selected Compaq to be the sole computer company participating in
regional launch events in more than 58 cities in the U.S. For more

Customers can configure and buy Prosignia products and services
directly from Compaq through its DirectPlus Web site at
directplus.compaq.com, by calling 800/888-5858 or from a
local Compaq Authorized Reseller/direct marketer. Utilizing the
industry's first Customer Choice distribution model, Prosignia
desktops pre-installed with Microsoft Office 2000 Small Business will
be available through authorized retailers in June.
