Hi dan. Thanks for the info. Just to add to what you were saying about the DeBakey unit. If the Heartsaver stops working the patients Left Ventricule is unimpeded and therefore at worse, he will return to his previous state. If the DeBakey unit ceases, the lack of "valves" that makes this unit simplistic also causes a feedback thru the stopped impeller back to the input side of the heart. So what literally could happen is that if the "path of lesser resistance" is the deBakey VAD, then when stopped the blood would circulate back to the heart as opposed thru the body.
Secondly, if the "little" fan ceases operation because of its construction chances increase the chance of clotting. Apparently DeBakey is going to fit valves into his unit....raising the complexity of the unit further to prevent the "feedback issue".
