hey pw,

i have a question for you about system works 2.0.

from their knowledge base
(http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nsw.nsf/bb0b91db51b2e8058525672f004d7cb5/ab5d4c77c3dc70fe8825669d00511595?OpenDocument) comes this info regarding speeding up your machine after installation of system works 2.0 :

"Norton SystemWorks 2.0 Knowledge Base

Computer Slows Down after Installing Norton SystemWorks

Situation:

You have installed Norton SystemWorks and now your machine seems to
respond slowly or lock up at random intervals.

Solution:

This may occur for a number of reasons, Please check the following:

- Check the CONFIG.SYS file to determine if there are
references to files and buffers that are below the Windows
defaults.

To do this:
1. Click Start and choose Run.
2. Type SYSEDIT and click OK.
3. Click the title bar for the C:\CONFIG.SYS file.
4. If you have a "FILES=##" (##=some number lower than 60) or
"BUFFERS=##" (##=some number lower than 30) line, then you have
two courses of action. You can:

Remark these lines out. Do this by typing REM and a space at the
beginning of each line. This will enable Windows to use its default
settings for file handles and buffers.

--or--

You can increase these references to FILES=155 and BUFFERS=60."

in reference to the bold text above... do you think it would screw anything up to reset these numbers in my config.sys file to 155 and 60? they're at 60 and 40, respectively, for me. per #4 above, symantec seems to call out minimum settings of files=60 and buffers=30.

btw, i'd just be tweaking, as i don't necessarily have a prob with slow responses or lock ups at random intervals.

thanks,

mark
