Lynn; Rabies is a problem down here too!(especially in raccoons).Unfortunately, law enforcement is a bigger problem. It is against the law to trap or transport a wild animal out of season and the local deputies will be more than happy to fine you (no matter what your reasons). If you take it to court the local judge will be more than happy to take your money(they are building a new courthouse and SOMEONE has to pay for it). It's a lot easier(for me,anyway) to get some oral rabies vaccine from the vet and sprinkle it on their food.Outside of a little lawn damage, coons do no harm and are quite friendly to pets and people. I do,however, prefer to carry a gun when I go to town.
