Walter,
I know that you are a fan of the microOS from eDIG. Thanks for sending the link to me. This is an excerpt from the linked pages...
INNOVATIONS
The company has a record of innovation in its field. e.Digital Corporation was the first to:
¤Use Flash memory in a handheld voice recording device. ¤Use removable digital recording media in a handheld device. ¤Interface a portable voice recorder with a PC and the Internet using removable storage media. ¤Record and play back CD quality music using CompactFlashâ„¢ storage media.
PATENTS
The company has been granted five patents on its handheld recording systems, with additional patents pending. The current patents cover both hardware and software developed by the company. Patent-protected intellectual property includes handheld recording devices, e.Digital's MicroOS file management system, the use of removable flash memory cartridges in a handheld device, and their streamlined methods for recording and editing files in portable systems where memory is at a premium.
Did you notice that they mention CompactFlashâ„¢ as a storage medium? It suggests to me that their products seek to enhance storage products, and that is fine. I do take exception to some of their grandiose claims. First to do this, first to do that...I mean, the first handheld device using flash memory for voice recording. Why not just say they helped develop "x" or "y". For all I know that device could be "Tickle Me Elmo". Also, they claim that they patented the use of removable flash memory cartridges in handheld devices???
I quess eDIG is specializing in software that helps to manage data stored on flash memory modules such as CF, MMC, SmartMedia, embedded chips, and the like.
Help us understand how this innovation helps or hurts SNDK.
