Norfolk Southern at the Starting Gate, Chairman Tells Stockholders (I saw this over at Transport News) WILLIAMSBURG, Va., May 13-- "After almost two and a half years, the Thoroughbred is finally at the starting gate, ready to capitalize on what I believe is the best rail network in the world, " David R. Goode, Norfolk Southern chairman, president and chief executive officer, said today during the corporation's annual meeting of stockholders. The operation of a large portion of Conrail 's routes and assets in the Northeast signals a new era in transportation, said Goode, adding that " thoroughly preparing for the Conrail transaction will enable Norfolk Southern to realize long-term opportunities at every curve in the track." Goode said the potential of the new network is far greater than the challenges associated with preparing for it.
