Hi Frank:

Thanks for your excellent analysis of the USW + GBLX
deal. I guess Bob Anunziata wants ultimately to be viewed
on par with Bernie Ebbers and Michael Armstrong. Let's hope
he will not run GBLX into a ditch in the process.

If, as you suggest, the deal is structured so that the
ILEC and IXC operations of the new company are kept separate,
I do not see a problem. However, if this is the case, why
make a deal now?

I know I hold a minority view, but in spite of my respect
for Senator McCain, I hope his bill is shot down. Antitrust
laws are highly beneficial to consumers, and his bill would
just entrench the ILEC monopoly further. What is needed
is to extend the same antitrust strictures to cable
companies, i.e., ATT, instead of giving them a free ride.

Best regards,

Bernard Levy
