Thank you, Terry, for a thought-provoking posting. I, myself, am frequently astonished by what I read. It sometimes appears as though the relative anonymity of the Net allows a greater play of bigotry.

As we reduce ourselves to bodies of information, collections of data, and screens full of text, we are less and less there. There isn't much of the individual left to discriminate against in any deeply personal sense. But at the same time it's difficult to feel any great respect for the impersonal precipitate of data that is all we have left.

Do you think that this is one of the reasons for the passionate devotion to places like SI's Coffee Shop and like this thread? That we get to be people again, laughing and debating, quarreling and loving?
