There's a joke from the bush-gorbachev-mitterand era:

The three leaders go before God and they say:

Mitterand: "I've got immigration and trade deficit problems... when will France be made right again?"

God answers, "in 15 years."

Mitterand weeps at the realization he won't be able to take credit for the turnaround.

Bush says, "I've got racial and other sorts of problems. How long before the US is made right again?"

God answers, "10 years."

Bush breaks out crying that it will be another decade before things are completely right.

Gorbachev says, "what about Russia?"

...and God cries.

Too bad for Russia that Stalin ever was. Tukhachevskiy would have been a much better leader.
