UPC bids 1.3 bln marks for German

FRANKFURT, May 16 (Reuters) - Dutch-based cable television
firm United Pan-European Communications (UPC)
(Nasdaq:UPCOY - news) has offered 1.3 billion marks ($712.3
million) to buy German cable operator Telecolumbus, magazine
Focus said in its latest edition.

Telecolumbus's owners -- utilities RWE AG(quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: RWEG.F) and Veba
AG(quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: VEBG.F) -- have received offers of up to 1.5 billion marks,
Focus said, giving no names. But it said an offer by German telecoms group Mobilcom AG(quote
from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: MOBG.F) had been rejected.

Focus said Telecolumbus had 1.7 million customers in Germany, making it the country's second
largest operator.
