Bio '99 to showcase technology, treatment

SEATTLE (CBS.MW) -- The world's largest biotechnology trade show kicks off Sunday, giving industry giants and start-ups a chance to discuss and showcase their products and technological developments.
Glaxo Wellcome (GLX: news, msgs), Eli Lilly (LLY: news, msgs), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ: news, msgs) and Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY: news, msgs) and Immunex (IMNX: news, msgs) are among the companies in attendance. The Seattle Times reported the conference is expected to draw over 5,000 executives from the industry.
There are currently more than 120 biotech companies in Washington state, the Seattle Times said.
Among them, Bothell, Wash.-based ICOS (ICOS: news, msgs) will showcase its developing impotence drug. The treatment is seen as a potential challenger to Pfizer's Viagra.
The Seattle Times quoted Icos' CEO, president and chairman George Rathmann as saying, ""I've been getting calls for two months now from people asking, 'Can I see you at Bio '99,?' "
