Ron, I'm not talking about I2, which is a specific high speed initiative, but instead I am thinking of how next generation concepts such as optical networking, DWDM to the Lan, large scale, ultra high speed, expandable routers etc will be used to address bottlenecks, reduce costs and change the way the worldwide Internet grows and is maintained.
As Frank already discussed, even the topology of networking in large buildings could change drastically. When you do that your whole equipment need changes. The same type of thing will happen worldwide, not only in buildings but all over.
I suggest rereading his excellent post. Going from 200 farms down to 2 or so drastically changes not only the design, but the equipment needed, the ease/complexity of growth and support as well. Now expand that EVERYWHERE.
When THAT happens, what kind of opportunity is out there for new products? What does it mean for the existing installed base of routers and switches worldwide? How fast will this occur?
I better get going on those posts - I'll try for tonight. |
