Participacoes SA provides cellular telecommunications services to the
Brazilian States of Bahia and Sergipe. The Company operates as a holding
company for Telebahia Celular SA and Telergipe Celular S.A. The company
said
it lost 10.28 million reais, or 3 Brazilian centavos per thousand
shares, for
the first quarter ended March 31, 1999.
