Kerm / Northrock

Interesting that you list this one. Operationally the deal with Unocal is a definitive answer to a few problems -- in particular, deep pockets to make the debt situation more palatable. I was struck by an analyst's comment, though, that suggested that Northrock might now end up as a sort of orphan in the Canadian oil patch. If people don't know how to deal with the 50% that isn't owned by Unocal, that's a possibility. Anyway, that's what led me to tender the remainder of my shares. After having sold half my position in '97, having them take out 80%+ leaves me with a tag end, to dispose of when convenient.

I guess I just decided that the closer to plain vanilla a situation is, the easier for the market to wrap its head around. That seems important after such a tough market the last 18 or so months.
