DJ Brazil May 1-17 Net Forex Inflow $2.698B Vs 848M April

Dow Jones Newswires

BRASILIA -- Brazil's foreign-exchange markets posted a net inflow $2.698
billion from May 1 to May 17, as local companies return to international
capital markets, the central bank's economic department head Altamir
Lopes said Monday.

"This significant inflow so far in May mainly reflects the rebound of
medium- and long-term foreign loans," Lopes said. "Up until today,
there's a $1.7 billion net inflow of (foreign) loans with payback terms
of over one year," he added.

As reported, Brazilian foreign-exchange markets posted a net inflow of
$848 million in April, the first time inflows outpaced outflows since
October.

In the first four months of the year, there was a net foreign-exchange
outflow of $9.94 billion, from a $26.823 billion net inflow in the
year-earlier period.
