[Ah, I am so glad that Bernie has, by his last report, succeeded in diverting E's suspicions by pretending to be her friend. As her security expert he has placed him in a perfect position to gain her confidence. And indded, E seems to have bought, hook, line, and sinker, that scheme we cooked up for him to pretend that he was going to plant stink bombs throughout the property. What a gullible dear soul she is! Indeed, he pretends to play the double agent with her, even persuading her that he is really on her side and is double-crossing me. What a wonderful sense of humor he has!
But as his attorney for many, many years who has defended him successfully numerous times, I not only have his complete confidence, I also know all too many secrets which, if divulged, would make him a permanent guest of the State of New York, and have more than ample evidence to convict him of many offenses (I think the phrases is "I know where the bodies are buried," and indeed I do know precisely where two bodies of people he has unfortunately had to dispose of in the course of his work ARE buried). Since I quite literally hold the key to his freedom for the rest of his life, which is more important to him than any dalliance with a maiden, however sweet she be (and I can assure all from personal knowledge that she is indeed very sweet), I am quite confident that he would not betray me by playing the double (or is it triple?) agent against me, and that no pretence otherwise by E can be anything but her self-deception.] |
