Small Biotechs have a nasty record of SLAGITT or "Seemed like a good idea at the time" in trial design. Retrospective controls are a perennial favorite and continue to take their toll. So I wouldn't rule out stupid trial design and the need to cull real solid data from an otherwise messy picture.

However, in this case, speculation seems to be running to an unacceptable side effect. If these are fainting and nausea that's bad enough mojo for an elective drug ("Caution: you may faint and barf on your partner") but some women might prefer their partners to be unconscious, so this could be an indication as well.
