RF Micro Devices Supplying CATV Amplifier to Motorola
GREENSBORO, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 1999--RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD - news) announced today that they are supplying to Motorola a key component for Motorola CableComm® Cable Access Units, the company's subscriber unit for telephony over high-frequency cable.

The Motorola Cable Access Unit (CAU) provides voice over cable with the lowest subscriber unit power consumption in the industry. Multiple subscriber models are available to provide flexibility between the number and type of lines supported, power sources and cost.

''RFMD provides a high-performance, cost-effective amplifier solution for Motorola. This new business from Motorola is indicative of the success we have been enjoying with our line of cable TV products. RFMD continues to focus on cable TV amplifiers as a growing application for our GaAs HBT technology.'' said Jerry Neal, RFMDTM vice president of sales and marketing. The RF2317 is part of a competitive line of CATV amplifiers designed for signal amplification at the subscriber connection. This growing cable TV product offering also includes new line amplifiers for use at the fiber to coax node, and up/downconverters for set-top converters. This amplifier is fabricated using advanced GaAs HBT (Gallium Arsenide Heterojunction Bipolar Transistor) process technology.
