SR stands for SilkRoad Corporation. They are a small, what I would consider, startup in development stage, company at this time located in CA.
They have a competing principle to that of DWDN called SRSC which received some heavy press as the next optical breakthrough, but there hasn't been anything out of the labs for a while. At the height of this attention AHhaha and I started a thread on them, hoping to track their developments.
The thread has proved to be a good debunking ground, which was frequented for a time by some highly knowledgeable folks. G Gilder opined that the claims coming out of SR were Vertiginous!, for example. I guess you had to be there at the time.
The thread morphed to some extent, when nothing further seemed forthcoming from SR's labs, into a catch-all for other breakaway optical approaches as well. Some interesting reading there, if you have a liking for, and can keep up with, this stuff. It gets pretty deep at times... is what I'm saying, sometimes in more ways than one. There is a white paper which greets you immediately when you call up the page. The white paper is viewed variously by some as informative for the lay person, or otherwise by others as nothing but a form of chutzpah-filled, showmanship . You can decide for yourself.
