JAVA WORLD TOUR - The Good, The Bad and The Ugly The GOOD - Sun + IBM + Netscape are doing a Java Product Tour discussing the first 600 days of Java. The theme for developers is "Write Once - Run Anywhere" no more software porting to other platforms. Sun is doing an outstanding job with Java, but the Sun Workshop product demo finished last. I would place Visual Cafe ahead of IBM's Visual Age product in the demo shoot out. This happened on Wednesday. Visual Cafe is AWESOME!! Today, my oldest son (Michael 21) and I started using Visual Cafe Pro for a database application and we were impressed with the power and ease it worked with a financial database we have in Access. We used DBANYWHERE and VISUAL CAFE PRO products and generated forms and controls in a snap. The Bad & The Ugly Rumor has it Microsoft is starting to give J++ Free. It's the Microsoft way if you can't beat the competitor, give it away free so that the other competitor products have to lower their prices. Les
